SR 1020 Creeping Bentgrass
Creeping Bentgrass

Description

One of the most popular varieties of creeping bentgrasses for golf course use. SR 1020 exhibits an excellent putting green growth habit with fine texture, uniform dark green color, heat and drought tolerance and improved resistance to Pythium blight. SR 1020 was developed using germplasm obtained from the University of Arizona. 93 clones were evaluated for heat tolerance, turf quality, and ability to thrive under southwest climate conditions. Of the 93, twenty-six clones which appeared to have the best potential were planted and mowed regularly at 1/4 inch as a putting green. Of the twenty-six, five clones were chosen as the parental clones for SR 1020. This highly selective breeding process took many years to complete.

Broad genetic base

BENEFITS:
Faster, truer putting surface even at higher mowing
Excellent summer performance
Superior color retention during stress

Seeding Rates

New turf: 1 to 1.5 pounds per 1000 square feet.
Overseeding: Up to 1 pound per 1000 square feet as needed.

Establishment

Emergence: 10-14 days.

Adaptability & Care

It is recommended that bentgrass be fertilized with 4 1/2 pounds of nitrogen per 1,000 square feet. An annual program would call for spring feeding of 1 1/2 pounds each in the spring, summer and early fall. Supplementary applications would be as color and growth dictate, but normally at a rate of no more than 1 pound per 1,000 square feet.

Quality Assurance

SR 1020 is a distinct variety of creeping bentgrass registered in the Oregon State seed certification program.

To determine whether a cultivar's performance is truly different from another, subtract one entry's mean from another entry's mean. If this value is larger than the LSD value, the observed difference in cultivar performance is significant and did not happen by chance.
